Production Music User Guide

The ITV Music Hub Production Music service gives you immediate access to hundreds of thousands of downloadable broadcast quality WAV files (48 kHz) from the UK’s best Production Music libraries.

Access to this service is subject to Terms and Conditions.

1. Access and Global Functions

Once you have your username and password, click the orange Log In button and enter your details. There is also a link to Change Your Password. To log out, click the orange Log Out button in the top right hand corner of every page.

When you first log in, you will be presented with the Home page where you make the choice to enter either the Commercial Music service or Production Music service.

To change services, either click the pink Home button in the top left of the main navigation strip in either service to return to the Home page to make another selection…

...or click the drop down menu in the top right hand corner of all screens in both services to quickly switch from one service to the other.

2. Searching For Music

Quick Search

Use the Quick Search to search for music using a free text ‘Google’ style search box.

Enter in as many terms as you like, from any combination of:-

  • Musical Styles, Musical Groups, Instruments, Voices, Tempos
  • Moods, Atmospheres
  • Subjects
  • …and even Titles and Composers if you know them.

You can choose to search for Tracks or Albums.

Click on the pink Search button and the system will search in all the data fields for the terms you’ve entered and return either Tracks or Albums in a set of results, as appropriate.

See Track Search Results and Album Search Results below to see how your results will be displayed when you search for either Tracks or Albums.

Categories Search

You can also search for music using a menu of Categories by clicking the Categories link in the Search navigation bar.

You can select as many Categories as you want from:-

  • Musical Styles, Musical Forms, Musical Groups, Instruments, Voices, Tempos
  • Moods, Atmospheres & Qualities
  • Music For (Subjects)

and they will be added to the Categories Selected box on the right hand side of the page.

You can also de-select them if you want to.

Once you’ve created a list of the Categories you want, click on the pink Search button and the system will search for Tracks in the selected categories and return them in a set of results.

Please note: The Categories Search is an AND search, which means that the system will look for Tracks that are in the first Category AND the second Category AND the third Category… and so on.

Titles and Composers Searches

You can also search by Titles and Composers by clicking on the Titles or Composers link in the Search navigation bar

Begin typing in the white search bar and you will be presented with matches as you type:-

Please note that Composers are listed surname first.

Alternatively, you can search by letter or number in the top right corner and navigate through pages using the arrow links at the bottom of the box.

You can make as many selections as you want, and they will be added to the Titles (or Composers) Selected box on the right hand side of the page. You can also de-select them if you want to.

You can choose to Search for Tracks or Albums here as well.

Once you’ve created a list of the Titles (or Composers) you want, click on the pink Search button and the system will search for Tracks with the selected Titles, or by the selected Composers, and return them in a set of results.

See Track Search Results and Album Search Results below to see how your results will be displayed when you search for either Tracks or Albums.

Libraries Search

Use this search type, if you simply want to browse the online ‘shelves’ of a Production Music Library or catalogue you already know.

Use the ‘tree’ structure to select either a top level Library or one of its labels.

When you have made your selection, click on the pink Search button and the system will display all the Albums from the selected library or label. You can use the Sort Order function to change the order that the Albums are displayed in.

Please note that the Libraries search only searches for Albums (see Album Search Results below for how your results will be presented.)

New Releases Search

Click on the New Releases link in the navigation bar to search for all the Albums added to the ITV Music Hub in the last 90 days.

You can use the Sort Order function to change the order that the Albums are displayed in.

You can also access this search from a link on the Quick Search page:-

3. Results

Track Searches

If you have conducted a Track Search, your Results will appear like this;

They are ordered first by a ‘relevancy score’ for their relevance to your search terms, then according to your Preferences (Please see Preferences below for more information.)

You can click on Sort Order in the top right hand corner of the page to re-sort your results into a different order.

Within Track Results, the left hand side of your results shows you what Label the track has come from, the Categories the track has been tagged with, a Description of the track and the Version.

You can also click on More Info to see additional data displayed underneath the track data.

You can also click on See All Versions (if available) to see other versions of the track.

You can navigate through results in several ways. You can use the Next Page links to scroll through pages of your results, or alternatively you can click the underlined categories for a track to perform a new search for other tracks in that category.

If you want to see the entire album that a track came from, click the album artwork on the right hand side of any track. This will open a new page that shows you details about the album at the top, and the tracks within it below. To return to your results click the purple Back to Tracks link on the top left hand side:-

For each track there are various actions you can activate on the right hand side, represented by icons.

By clicking these icons you can ‘Listen’, ‘Download’, Add to ‘Cart’ or View ‘Details’.

Album Searches

If you have made an Album Search, your results will appear like this.

They are ordered first by a ‘relevancy score’ for their relevance to your search terms, then according to your Preferences (Please see Preferences below for more information.)

You can click on Sort Order in the top right hand corner of the page to re-sort your results into a different order.

The left hand side of your results shows you what Label the track has come from, the album artwork and gives data that the album has been tagged with, including Composer, Description and Number of Tracks.

You can navigate through results in several ways. You can use the Next Page links to scroll through pages of your results, or alternatively you can click the underlined categories for an album to perform a new search for other albums that contain that category. If you want to view tracks in an album click View Tracks on the right hand side:-

From this page you can view all the tracks and their data as well as information on the entire album at the top. This page is essentially a Track Search for this album – for full details see the Track Search section above. To return to your original Album Search, click the purple Back To Albums link at the top left of the page, or to cycle through the albums from your original search you can do so using the orange Next Album and Previous Album at the top right hand side.

For each track there are various actions you can take on the right hand side shown by icons. By clicking these icons you can ‘Listen’, ‘Download’, add to ‘Cart’ or view ‘Details’.

4. Auditioning Music listen icon

Having found a track you want to listen to, click on the Listen icon next to the track and the ITV Music Hub Player will open and play your track in mp3 format (mono 64 kbps).

You can listen to the whole track, or any part it by moving the grey ‘slider’ bar at the top of the box. When the track has completed ‘buffering’, you can click on different areas on the bar to skip forward or backwards as required.

5. Downloading Music download icon

To download a full CD quality stereo .wav file (48 kHz), click on the Download icon next to the track.

This will open your browser's File Download box in which you select the Save option.

Select from the drop down Save menu where you want to save the file.

Note: You will still need to clear any music you use in the usual way via ITV’s existing arrangements.

6. Adding Tracks to a Cart cart icon

You can add a track to the Cart by clicking on the greyed out Cart symbol in the list of actions next to it.

Whenever you add a track you will notice the Cart icon ‘spins’ briefly and then ‘solidifies’.

If you change your mind, just click on the icon and it will grey out again.

To add multiple tracks to the Cart, use the Add All link in the navigation bar.

7. Viewing Additional Track Information details icon

You can view more information about a track by clicking the Details icon.

This will open up a new window which contains information for Music Reporting (where available) such as:-

  • Library Label
  • Album Number, Release Date, Album Title
  • Track Number, Track Title, Track Version
  • Composer(s), Publisher(s)
  • Artist
  • Duration

8. Cart Functions

The ‘global’ Cart functions are in the navigation bar:-

  • Listen All Opens the ITV Music Hub player and will play all tracks sequentially in your Cart’s order.
  • Download All Zips up all tracks and performs a ‘bulk’ download.
  • Remove All Removes all tracks from your Cart.
  • Save Cart Saves the ‘bookmarks’ of the tracks in the Cart as a named spreadsheet to a location of your choice.
    Once saved, you can share the spreadsheet with other ITV Music Hub users who can use it to open the same cart (see below).
  • Open Cart Enables you to locate a named Cart spreadsheet and click on Open to populate your Cart with it.
    Please note that opening a previous Cart will add the tracks into your current Cart. If you do not want this, please make sure to clear your current Cart by using Remove All or to Save Cart first.

As in Results, you can Listen, Download or view Details for tracks in the Cart by clicking on the icons next to them.

You can edit your Cart in several ways:-

  • Remove a track or tracks by clicking on the Remove icon.
  • Use the Up/Down Move icons to move the tracks and change the order.
  • Reorder your Cart more quickly by dragging and dropping the tracks into your preferred order.
  • Resort your Cart by clicking on the column titles (Title, Artist or Album/Single EP) to sort alphabetically by that column.

Zipping Up A Cart

When you click on the Download All link, the ITV Music Hub will begin zipping up your tracks and a progress bar will inform you of the status. When the ‘zip’ has been created, the Download button will become available. You can then download the zipped tracks in the same way as you would an individual track. (See Downloading Music above)

Please note that it may take some time to collect and zip up the items in your Cart. To reduce the risk of errors, we recommend you only download Carts containing up to 50 tracks.

9. Contact Libraries

Having trouble finding the right track? The libraries know their catalogues better than anyone else – so why not ask the experts! All the libraries that contribute music to the ITV Music Hub would be delighted to help you find the perfect track for your purpose.

Click on Contact Libraries at the top right hand corner of any page, or on the link on the Quick Search page, to view contact details for all the contributing libraries and the labels they represent.

Click on View Info to find out a more about each library.

10. Preferences

The order that your results are presented to you are based on your Set Preferences. Click the link in the top right hand side to change them.

Use the three Sort fields to choose the order you want your search Results to appear in. You can choose from Title, Library or Release Date.

If you choose Library as one of your Sort By options, you can use the Move Up and Move Down buttons and + function to arrange the libraries and labels in your preferred order.

Once you’ve set your Preferences, your Results will be ordered accordingly until you change them.

But you can temporarily override this ‘default’ order in any set of Results and re-sort the result by clicking on Sort Order.

Please remember to click on Apply Changes before leaving the Preferences page. If you leave the page without saving your changes they will not be applied.
